Although we're non-auditioned, we teach music from the inside out: understanding the meaning of the words we sing and expressing it vocally.
With this belief, singers of all skill levels continue to join us every year over the past 20 years.
Our choice in music helps us expand the lens through which we see the world.
Music includes the classics, jazz, popular, gospel and world music.
Music begins when
At the end of the day, we sing because we want to feel connected. Also, we sing to create community!
We still care about the quality of music we make! That’s why we have an artistic team of professional musicians.
We first teach the meaning of the music we sing so that you can develop a life-long appreciation for music.
As a professional music educator, conductor, and composer, Gerda Blok-Wilson has seen how music has transformed people's lives at any age.
But she has also experienced it first-hand.
With her parents immigrating from the Netherlands, Gerda's formal music lessons came mostly through school and community choirs.
After finishing her music degree and professional teaching certificate from UBC, Gerda settled down in Prince George and conducted various adult and community choirs. She later went on to complete a Masters Degree in Education with a specialty in the Kodály Music Education program.
In 2010, she established Cansing to continue to bring people together—regardless of skill level.
I could not help but be swept away by the spirit of community.
"The joy and sense of belonging in the room was undeniable. I am impressed by the obvious musical strides this organization has made in a few short years…
Bravo!!!"
- Dr. Jeanette Gallant

CanSing has brought joy back into my life.
"It's wonderful that it is something my daughter and I can do together."
- Julia Smith, Alto
It would be special to have three generations of our family involved.
"I joined the choir, following after my daughter and her two daughters, thinking it would be special to have three generations of our family involved. It certainly was, and is! It's been a wonderful experience. And now my second daughter has joined! "
- Mike McClellan, Bass
