Welcome to Sasha Luchkov, our new accompanist.

Please welcome our new accompanist, Oleksandr (Sasha) Luchkov. We’re excited to have him join Vancouver Cansing Choir this 2025-26 season.

Born in 2004 in Mukachevo, Ukraine, Sasha began piano lessons at the age of five with Maria Weiss at the Mukachevo School of Arts. In 2018, he won First Prize at the “Feurich-Virtuoz” International Piano Competition in Lviv, Ukraine. The following year, after receiving a special prize at the Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kyiv, he made his orchestral debut with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, performing Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor.

In 2019, Sasha began studying with Marianna Sokach at the Uzhhorod Vocational Music College and went on to win numerous prizes in Ukraine, Hungary, and Israel, including Second Prize at the Scherzo International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv (2022). That summer, he was invited to perform at MusicFest Perugia, where he played Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor with the festival orchestra.

In the fall of 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Sasha relocated to Vancouver with the support of renowned pianist Ilana Vered. He enrolled at Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island for his senior year and, upon graduation, was accepted into the UBC School of Music as a Piano Performance Major in the studio of David Fung. During his first and second years at UBC, Sasha was a finalist in the UBC Concerto Competition, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466, and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30.

Vancouver Cansing will begin rehearsal, Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Cityview Church. If you are interested in singing, please fill out the notification form so that we can let you know when registration is available at the end of August.
