You are invited to the Vancouver Cansing Choir Spring Concert May 5, 2026, The Underlying Spirit, on Tuesday, May 5 at 7:00 PM at City Baptist Church (109 E 40th Ave, formerly Immanuel Baptist Church).

Under the direction of Gerda Blok-Wilson, Artistic Director, with Sasha Luchkov, collaborative accompanist, this evening of music celebrates resilience, connection, and the power of community.
This one-hour concert features a vibrant mix of seasonal favourites, including a newly commissioned work by Canadian composer Christine Donkin, The Underlying Spirit, based on a quotation by B.C. visual artist Emily Carr. The program also includes The Breath Between (an arrangement by Mark Sirett of David Francey’s beloved song), Long Range Forecast by Stuart Beatch, and audience favourites such as Soon May the Wellerman Come, Fields of Gold, and Let the River Run. The choir will also premiere Gerda Blok-Wilson’s new arrangement of the traditional Ukrainian lullaby Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon (The Dream Passes by the Window).
The Vancouver Cansing instrumental ensemble will also perform – Sasha Luchkov and Claire Lloyd – and we are delighted to showcase our 2026 Solo Bursary recipient, Jade Wong Levesque, a third-year mezzo-soprano studying at UBC.
