On Tuesday, May 7th, at 7pm, Immanuel Baptist Church, the Vancouver Cansing Community Choir will present THE FUTURE BECKONS featuring a unique set of songs with the message of renewal, hope, and peace. Admission to the concert is by donation to MISSION POSSIBLE an initiative aimed at empowering people typically excluded from the traditional workforce – like those facing homelessness and housing insecurity, poverty, and other barriers to employment – by paving a pathway to long-term jobs and lasting change.
The highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of “Good Rain,” a beautiful piece by Montreal composer, Wei Cui, that captures the essence of spring. VCCC commissioned Wei Cui to write this specifically for Vancouver Cansing Choir.
The choir will also perform a premiere performance of “The Song My Paddle Sings” by Gerda Blok-Wilson and other songs by renowned Canadian composers including Lavinia Kell Parker and Lydia Adams.
Carlo Santos, the choir’s bursary soloist for 2024, will join the group to perform three beautiful solo pieces for tenor voice, and as well, he’ll join the group on two of their pieces.
The program will also feature selections by the Cansing Instrumental Trio, Claire Lloyd (clarinet), Guy Rockwell (guitar) and Kevin Eng (piano).
We hope you can join us for some wonderful musical selections while supporting a great cause.
