Vancouver CanSing Adult Choir will present IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE, Tuesday, May 8th, 8 – 9pm, Cityview Church (4370 Sophia St – 5 mins East from Main & 28th). Admission is by donation (suggested $15 – $20.00 to cover rent and professional fees).

The choir will perform seasonal songs by Handel, Purifoy, Joel, Tate, Bernon, Blok-Wilson and more. Our programs are always entertaining. We hope you’ll join us! Please help us spread the word to family and friends.

Special guest soloist will be Alyssa Nicole Samson, UBC opera student. This is the second year that the choir has supported an emerging vocal artist and we look forward to sharing the singing experience with her!

VCS SOAR, Tuesday, February 27th, 7pm, Tupper Auditorium

Vancouver CanSing Choirs will explore songs that “Soar” Tuesday, February 27, 7pm, Tupper Auditorium (419 East 24th). Including works by Eric Whitacre, Ola Gjeilo, Giuseppe Verdi. Jeanette Gallant, Brian Wilson & Mike Love (Beach Boys), John Lennon and Paul McCartney (The Beatles), Justin Hurwitz (La La Land), there will be a premiere performance of “Rise Up” by Gerda Blok-Wilson.

Along with the final mass choir piece “The Rhythm of Life” (Sweet Charity), performed by 150 singers from five choirs, the uplifting songs in this approximately one hour show promise to be appealing to all choir friends and family.

Admission is by donation. Suggested amount is $10 – 15/person. We hope you can join us!

CHRISTMAS IN THE AIR, Tuesday, December 12th, 7 – 8pm. Tupper Auditorium (419 E 24th).

On Tuesday, Dec 12th, 7pm Charles Tupper Auditorium (419 E 24th) will be alive with the sounds of the season as the VCS choirs along with audience for the Vancouver Food Bank. This is the third CHRISTMAS IN THE AIR to benefit the GVFB.

VCS choirs will provide family entertainment and also lead the audience in an hour long program of some rousing seasonal music. Invite your family, friends and neighbours.

Join the Fun!! The enthusiastic and spirited sound of the VCS choirs is the heart of this event but it’s a fantastic opportunity for the public to join in on many songs in this high energy show. For the Hillcrest neighbourhood especially, this is a fantastic way to reach out and support a charity during this time of year. Last December, the VCS choirs raised $2000.00 after expenses.

Admission is by donation ($10 – 20.00 suggested amount). All proceeds (after expenses) will go to the Greater Vancouver Foodbank (no food items please).

“And then, they’ll do something I (Grinch) hate most of all. Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small, will stand close together with Christmas bells ringing. They’ll stand hand in hand, and those Whos will start singing.

With each $1 VCS Choirs donate, GVFB can purchase at least $3 worth of nutritious groceries and fresh produce for the thousands of people they support each week. Family and friends are welcome!

The Vancouver CanSing (VCS) 2017 fall choir session registration is open! All rehearsals begin Tuesday, September 12th, Cityview Church, the Hillcrest neighbourhood. We welcome new members (youth and adult) who love to sing and perform. Please share via email, Facebook, Twitter, newsletters so the word gets out to people who are keen to sing! Adult Choir (non-auditioned)

The choirs will be rehearsing for the 70 – minute show, TO THE SPIRIT OF SONG, Friday, November 17th, 7pm and will feature thematic songs from the classic, jazz, popular, musical theatre and folk genre. While many pieces are still being selected, the show will feature some fantastic mass choir selections including  Changes (women’s choirs), Stand by Me (men) Bonse Aba (Adult & Chorthemo) Sing (Advanced youth choir) & Kusimama (Mass Youth choirs). The VCS mass choir of 150 voice will perform I Love You/What a Wonderful World. A more detailed list of music repertoire will be sent to registrants at the end of June.

What a delight to see the wonderful work being done here! CanSing is comprised of various choral groups of varying age groups, all of whom sing separately but also engage in multi-generational music-making.  I could not help but be swept away by the spirit of community.  The joy and sense of belonging in the room was undeniable. Lemonade and songs invitationFri, Mar 3, 7 – 7:45pm & Tues, Mar 7, 5 – 5:45pm Cityview Church (4370 Sophia St.), the Vancouver Cansing Level 1 and 2 choirs, Hillcrest neighbourhood, will present LEMONADE and Songs. Everyone is welcome. Admission is by donation. Suggested amount is $5.00 to cover expenses.

The show will feature a few songs from the Level 1 and 2 choir year and a 20 minute musical called LEMONADE by John Jacobsen and John Higgins. Join in the fairytale frenzy when Chicken Little, the a Little Pig, Humpty Dumpty, the Cat with a fiddle, Little Bo Peep, Little Girl Blue and a host of other characters are having a bad day! With the help of a cheerful Mother Goose, they learn to make the best out of life’s ups and downs.

CATCH THE DREAM, Friday, November 18th, 7pm, Tupper auditorium (419 East 24th Ave)

catch-the-dream                                                                                                                 The Vancouver CanSing Choir in the Hillcrest neighbourhood conducted by Gerda Blok-Wilson and accompanied by Kevin Eng will present the approximately 60 – minute show CATCH THE DREAM, Friday, November 18th, 7pm, Tupper auditorium (419 East 24th Ave). The concert with both youth and adult choirs will feature songs such as from the classic (Dies Irae – Mozart Requiem), popular (I Got a Name – Jim Croce), musical theatre (Nightmare Before Christmas medley) and many more. The mass choir selection will be Baba Yetu (Civilization IV) and a choral arrangement of Carly Simon’s Let the River Run (150 voices).

Everyone is welcome. Admission is “pay what you can” (suggested amount $10- $15.00/person to cover expenses).

LEVEL 3 (Maximum 35 members – Non-auditioned, ages 9 – 15) 7 spaces (Sept 8th).

LEVEL 4 CHORTHEMO (Maximum 20 members, auditioned – Boys/Girls ages 10 – 16 SAB). *New: boys are welcome to join this auditioned group. See information regarding auditions.

ADULT CHOIR (Maximum 60 members, mixed voices – SATB)

The choirs will be rehearsing for the 70 – minute show, I’VE GOT A DREAM, Friday, November 18th, 7pm and will feature thematic songs from the classic, jazz, popular, musical theatre and folk genre. While many pieces are still being selected, the show will feature such choral repertoire as Mozart’s DIES IRAE, Faure’s Sanctus, Croce’s I GOT A NAME, Elfman’s NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISMAS medley and Webber’s ANY DREAM WILL DO (Mass Youth Choirs). Sung by the Adult choir two years ago, the VCS mass choir of 150 voice will perform the choral arrangement of Carly Simon’s hit song, LET THE RIVER RUN. A more detailed list of music repertoire will be sent to registrants at the end of June.

Vancouver CanSing Adult Choir SPRING SING

On Tuesday, May 17, 8 – 9pm, Cityview Church (4370 Sophia St) the 30 voice Vancouver CanSing Spring Session Adult Choir will be inviting audience members to sing along. Admission is by donation. Suggested amount: $5 – $10/person.

The choir welcomes all who wish to raise their voice in celebration of spring! It is a great opportunity for adult singers to check out the VCS adult choir program – serious singers, shower singers and those who have not experienced the wonderful feeling of singing with a choir.

The event will be conducted by artistic director, Gerda Blok-Wilson and accompanied by Kevin Eng. Guest performers will be the VCS Level 4 CHORthemo youth choir.

Audience selections will include SOUND OF MUSIC (theme song), A BICYCLE BUILT FOR TWO, TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME and BEATLES MEDLEY. VCS Adult choir will perform a spring selection including PUSSY WILLOWS CATTAILS (Gordon Lightfoot), SEASONS OF LOVE (Rent), HOLD ON! (African American Spiritual), CANTATE DOMINO (Hans Leo Hassler), CRIPPLE CREEK (American Fiddle Tune) and THE TURTLE DOVE (English folk song).

The Vancouver CanSing Choir will present DON’T LET THE LIGHT GO OUT, Nov 21, 2:30 and 7:00pm at 108 East 40th Ave (Immanuel Church).   The approximately one hour show, presented by over 140 voices from VCS, will present songs from the classics to popular including “Gloria” (Vivaldi), “The Ground” (Gjeilo), “Seasons” (Gjeilo), “Samba de las Escrituras” (Berg), “Turn the World Around” (Belafonte), and mass choir selection, “Light One Candle” (Yarrow).

“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” Albert Schweitzer (theologian, organist, philosopher, physician).

Admission is by donation ($5 – $10.00/person recommended to cover expenses). Hope you can join us!
