Christmas in the Air Group

Thank you to VCS CLOWNS cast members for the wonderful, energetic storytelling!!

Sunday, June 8th, 2014

It was fantastic to watch everyone grow as singers and actors this year.  I’m so proud of you all.  You’ve given such joy to so many people.

I’m always a bit sad when projects like CLOWNS end.  But as our final song reminds us: “The best in life is still to come.”

There were so many positive comments from the audience and I’m still getting emails. One child at the Friday concert said, “How do they learn all of that?”

Also, thank you to parents for helping to make this second VCS musical happen and for the beautiful flowers!!

I’m already looking at musicals for next spring.  Ones that will stretch your acting and singing even more.  Cedar Shayel

Vancouver CanSing Adult Choir: Tony Araujo GUEST CONDUCTOR

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

With his energetic and inspiring conducting skills, Tony Araujo (BC Boys Choir, Corpus Christi Choir, St Patrick’s Regional High School Choirs) had the ability to pull out the best of Vancouver CanSing Adult Choir (Gerda Blok-Wilson, Artistic Director) members during their first GUEST CONDUCTOR session.  He reinforced a lot of concepts including vowels, diction, tone and storytelling.

Thank you to choir members for their whole-hearted participation!! There was a great response from singers when Tony Araujo  asked them to try new exercises and concepts.  Sometimes choir members don’t respond with such SPIRIT!!

SEIZE THE DAY , Saturday, March8th, 2:30 & 7pm, Immanuel Baptist Church (109 E40th Ave) is  going to be a great concert!

Thank you to the carolers who sang a pretty classy set of seasonal songs at Hillcrest Saturday, Dec 15th.  Wishing good cheer to our neighbours and getting into the Christmas spirit ourselves was a highlight for me and I know many of you.  Seeing the smiling faces and even people joining in on “Five hockey sticks” (Moose in a Maple Tree lyrics) was fantastic!  THANK YOU to Eileen Cervi and the skating club for so generously sharing their goodies with us and to Lorelei Lauten (Hillcrest Centre) for hosting us.

Vancouver CanSing brings people together!

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Vancouver CanSing “love to come together to sing as one” reports  Zoe McKnight in the Vancouver Sun article, July 23, 2012: The Power of Singing a Secular Hallelujah

 She writes:

“When conductor and music educator Gerda Blok-Wilson moved to East Van fromPrince Georgethree years ago, she found many of the choirs were auditioned and she wanted one completely open to the public.  She started CanSing in 2010 with 11 adults and 15 kids.  Those numbers have tripled, with 30 adults and 45 kids.  They cover classic, spiritual, folk and popular tunes, and are located in Riley Park, so most members can walk to rehearsal to get their “singers fix.”

“It’s more than I envisioned.  And for me it was a great way for me to meet people inVancouver,” Blok-Wilson said.

Blok-Wilson hopes more people, even those who lack musical training, take part in singing.  “It’s only natural”, she said, “People sing with their families or they hum on the street.  But they do love to come together and sing as one.”
